Below are some examples i used to prepare for each category:
1. Personal qualities
I want to be a teacher to help others. Teachers are stability and constants. My story??
· Organised- important to be organized mentally (check-lists) and Physically (label, giving relevant feedback) for emotional well-being of yourself and others.
· Empathy and passion- main reason in becoming a teacher (making a difference). Donate, volunteer, build awareness about important things such as environment, people, animals, etc.
· Initiative and creativity- questionable first year- main comment. Took more initiative second year- had to. Third year adapted, was apart of sport, dance at lunch, etc. assembly items etc.
· Positive and sense of humor- catching. Teacher jokes. Helps with anxiety of others.
· Learner, committed- self taught Japanese, read constantly, encourage creativity. Admitting when you don’t know something- learning with students. Demonstrate good practices. – make a board of things to revist- don’t shut down kids ideas allow them to add random questions etc.
· Communication and presentation skills- links with being able to engage through humour, legitimately wanting to learn.
· Awareness of the need for ongoing professional development

· Student welfare- everything the school community does to meet the personal, social and learning- safe learning environment (positive climate), discipline, health and social skills, support, diversity( community participation), effect T&L.
· Successful teaching strategies- balance of group, individual and paired. Explicit and implicit. Questioning techniques.
· Classroom environments- differentiation, multicultural, split families, positive and inclusive.
· Key to successful learning- accommodating needs, learning styles, preferences, interests. Social interactions, learning environment, confidence.
· Communication- teacher, peers, students, parents. Honesty, approachability- teacher physically hiding from parents in our classroom. Communicate with timely feedback to students. Good atmosphere in the classroom- such as 3rd year prac- no specific seats or cups all helpful and cooperative. Staff meetings with staff, stage, and principal. Negative one 1st year prac- didn’t meet half the teachers.
3. Curriculum Knowledge-
· How to teach literacy- phonics, reading for enjoyment, easy books to read for meaning, building confidence. mode continuum from spoken to written language
· How to teach numeracy- go back to basics. Tutoring- once your behind its hard to pick back up. Realistic that this is difficult with a whole class but need to be fair to all.
· Integrating ICT- in specific class ICT is easily engage nowadays. Through interactive whiteboards, presentation skills, and specifically…
· Awareness of current programs-
· Classroom management knowledge and skills- Positive reinforcement works better than negative. Realistically kids will be kids, sometimes there is only so much positive. If a student never receives positive what are they aspiring to? be consistant, follow through, be fair.
· Role of assessment- smart data, whole school plan, driving planning, pre, formative and summative.
4. Leadership Qualities-
· Role model for students- being a teacher 24/7- not having teacher at parties (e.g. 18th) yes human but inappropriate. Outside of school acknowledging students.
· Experiences in leadership roles- workplace, uni
· Leadership as a classroom teacher- modeling appropriate behavior, don’t say be respectful and not be respectful. Lead by and learn by example.
· Contributing to school envrionments- offering to take dance, helping with netball, going on excursions,
· Maintain and establish leadership- sense of humor, open to change, approachable, all those things that promote being a good teacher, keeping your cool, fostering two way respect. Listening and contributing, being genuinely interested in children not half listening.
5. Special skills and aptitudes
· Outside of school- passionate about people and animal welfare. Donate, volunteer, give blood etc
· Interests- read- (e.g. boy who was raised as a dog, 3 little words)- builds awareness that just because kids are bright doesn’t mean they don’t come from dodgy places. Adventurous- adrenalin rush. Family. Languages and culture- traveling.
. Implement- these interests by being genuinely passionate, building awareness and empathy not mentioning and moving on. Offering ways to make a difference
6. Child Protection
· Dec current policy CPA- being in this position of trust students may disclose to you personal information about mistreatment.
* Role is to be aware of the indicators, report to principal, provide support
* Risk of Harm Indicators: basic physical or psychological needs are not being met, necessary medical care, educational neglect, physically or sexually abused or ill-treated, domestic violence leading to physical or psychological harm, phsycological harm as a result of caregivers behavior, before birth significant harm after birth, or cumulative harm (pattern repeated over time)
* to decide you must have current concerns for the safety, welfare or wellbeing, circumstance of harm be present.
